Recipes for the summer season

The best summer recipes make use of fruits & vegetables while they are in peak season.

In June, look for recipes with berries, apricots, and early peaches. Spring's rhubarb, peas, and asparagus are also still available. But the heart of summer fruits and vegetables don't show up until July or August, unless you live in a warmer climate.

July starts to bring the classic summer vegetables like tomatoes, zucchini, corn, and peppers, along with the heart of peach season and melons. These are all still abundant in August, but apples and pears also show up.

The warm weather inspires plenty of grilling recipes, but don't overlook a good soup recipe. Make soups with summer's vegetables and freeze them for winter (you'll thank yourself later).
