This is one of the only monthly recipe lists you will find that's totally curated for seasonality. I don't just share any recipe that has butternut squash in it, or pears, or apples. I make sure all of the ingredients are currently in-season, or available (in good quality) all year.
Apples & pears
October is the heart of apple season, so make as many recipes as you can!
Figs
Fresh figs will be soft and syrupy. You can find them in most grocery stores and definitely at Trader Joe's every year. They even carry both brown and green figs.
Grapes
Grapes are in season in fall, and if you haven't tried roasting grapes yet, make that your goal this month. The flavor is sweeter, less acidic, and somehow almost savory.
Keep an eye out for concord grapes which taste exactly like grape juice. They have seeds in them, so either be ready for that or use them for juicing.
Cranberries
Cranberries first show up in October, sometimes not until the end of the month. Don't just use them in cranberry sauce or muffins, add them to some savory meat dishes too.
Pomegranates
Pomegranates show up in October, at the earliest, throughout most of the US. They are delicious on salads, bruschetta, or even to brighten up roasted vegetables.
Kiwi
Most people don't know that kiwi is a fall and winter fruit in the US. (Summer kiwi are imported from New Zealand).
Last of summer
The last of summer fruits might be hanging around, so this is your last chance to enjoy them at their best. Try mixing things up by pairing summer fruit with fall veggies.
